Weak procurement and supply systems, inadequate financing systems, high costs and non-availability of generic medicines and capacity constraints of regulatory authorities are examples for reasons that poor people do not have reliable access to much needed medication. Policies and strategies to ensure universal access to health care need to be comprehensive and include population-wide access to health services and medicines.
