Countries use essential medicines list to ensure that medicines available through the public sector are cost-effective and safe. Essential medicines lists document the medicines needed to address the priority health conditions of a countries' population. Medicines included in these lists are ideally derived from Standard Treatment Guidelines.
HERA has assisted several Ministries of Health in Africa and South America with a review of their essential medicines lists including Libya, Namibia, South Africa, Suriname, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.
