Mr. Wilbert Bannenberg, MD, MPH, M.Sc. (Epid), Pharmaceutical systems expert (°1952)
Pharmaceutical systems: National Drug Policy development and implementation support, access to essential medicines, regulatory systems support, drug legislation, intellectual property rights issues and medicines, drug financing, quantification of essential drugs' needs, selection of essential drugs and formulary development, rational use of drugs, operational research. TB, malaria and HIV/AIDS programmes: general public health consultancies. Training, capacity building and networking.
Between 1996 and 2000 Wilbert Bannenberg was the co-ordinator of the South African Drug Action Programme (SADAP), a UK funded project executed by WHO which assisted the South African Department of Health in implementing their National Drug Policy.
Prior to his appointment as WHO staff member in South Africa in December 1996, he was a freelance consultant for 12 years with Consultants for Health and Development (CHD, The Netherlands). He completed more than 50 missions to developing countries in the field of essential drugs and national drug policies, for development agencies of The Netherlands (DGIS), United Kingdom (ODA, now DFID), Denmark, WHO, the World Bank and European Union.
Wilbert Bannenberg joined hera in 2002.
His experience is mainly in Europe and Anglophone Africa (Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia).
