Narrative description of project:
The Flemish government, being responsible for population screening in Flanders, commissioned a study to optimise efficiencies in organising and implementing population screenings for breast cancer, cervix cancer and bowel cancer, being organised by a variety of institutions.
Description of services provided:
The study team analysed the organisation of the different population screening initiatives in Flanders; and compared it with the organisation of population screening for cancer in Wallonia, and several European countries. Based on the analysis, a proposal was developed for merging some of the central activities of population screening while fostering decentralised implementation and follow-up. Most of the efficiency gains proposed have been implemented.
