Country:
Zambia
Field of Expertise:
Health Policy and Governance; Policy, Governance, System; Health Policy / Policy Dialogue / Governance / Legal framework
Narrative description of project:
The Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Health (MCDMCH) coordinates social protection policy and programming for GRZ and is likely to be implementing a rapidly scaled up national social protection programme in coming years. In addition, GRZ has recently moved the responsibility for Primary Health care from Ministry of Health (MoH) to MCDMCH.

Improving public sector performance is a key element of the DFID Zambia Operational Plan. Following Government’s decision to realign the health delivery system and scale up social protection programming, there is a need to manage the ongoing realignment. The realignment of the two ministries is aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of health services and improved coordination with social protection services by way of using available and existing community structures in order to offer integrated services to communities.
