Narrative description of project:
The HIV/AIDS Prevention Trials Capacity Building Grants Program (HPTCBII), a five-year program of 16.7 million Canadian dollars co-funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) aimed to develop capacity and skills in sub-Saharan Africa to conduct HIV prevention research.
Nine capacity building projects were granted up to 1.8 CAD $ million each to contribute to the objective of the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative “to translate the basic science of HIV vaccines into clinical trials”. The partnerships linked primarily research institutions from Africa and Canada.
