Narrative description of project:
The purpose of this market study was to determine the feasibility for IDA foundation to keep a permanent stock in Haiti. The conclusion of the study was that there is a market for a local stock and that it should be established with a local partner. Three options for partnerships were presented in the final study report.
After studying the report, IDA foundation decided to go ahead and explore further the possibilities (a mission extension was awarded) to establish a local stock in collaboration with a local partner. A second mission (IDA Management and hera team leader) took place, where practical and regulatory issues were discussed and proposals were made to move forward. The Minister of health expressed full support to this project.
The establishment of this local IDA stock aims at increasing availability of essential medicines in the public and private sector in Haiti by mid-2014.
