Narrative description of project:
The current publicly run and publicly owned central medical store is not able to provide an adequate response to the requests for health products and other medical consumables coming from the public health institutions in the country.
The President’s office, the Ministry of Health, stakeholders in the public health sector and the main international financial and technical partners have agreed to work on the development of a new procurement and supply chain configuration in order to increase the availability of health products in public health facilities. This could be done through a restructuring of the current central medical store from a state owned public enterprise to a not-for-profit organization run on the basis of sound business principles. This seems to be the preferred option amongst the members of the Technical Working Group discussing these issues.
