Narrative description of project:
DFID provides financial assistance over four years (2012/13-2015/16) to support the "Improving Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health (IRMNH)" Programme, aimed at reducing maternal mortality and neonatal morbidity and expanding demand for use of family planning (FP) and other services related to reproductive health (RH) for women of childbearing age, men and youth in thirteen (13) districts in the Sierra Leone.
UNFPA is primarily responsible for achieving two objectives under the program IRMNH Sierra Leone, supported by DFID:
• Obj. 1: Increased awareness of information and services for SRH services
• Obj. 2: Increased use of modern family planning services
However, reports on the evidence of the effectiveness of program interventions IRMNH were limited and additional data collection efforts needed to be undertaken. For this reason, UNFPA conducted three annual surveys to monitor progress of the program over a period of 3 years (2013, 2014 and 2015).
