European Commission (EC)
South Africa
Field of Expertise:
Health Service Delivery; PHC/MNCH/RH/Nutrition/W&S; Reproductive Health / Maternal health / newborn health
Narrative description of project:
The mission was an assessment of a public-private partnership (PPP) between Marie Stopes South Africa (MSSA) and South African governmental health partners (district department of health and hospitals) to outsource termination of pregnancy (TOP) services. The purpose was to evaluate in how far this partnership responds to a real existing need, increases access to TOP, is cost-efficient and could be expanded to other parts of South Africa or to include other sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. The mission was requested by the Delegation of the European Union, together with the National Department of Health, to inform decision making on a possible broader agreement between the government and Marie Stopes South Africa.
