In memoriam : Jean-Pierre Kashala Ilunga, MD MPH

Jean-Pierre KASHALA ILUNGA, MD MPH

hera team leader ‘Third Party Monitoring for Appui au Système de Santé en RDC- ASSR’

While on a field trip to the province of Kasaï Central (DRC) as part of his work for hera, Jean-Pierre left us totally unexpectedly. He passed away in the night of 18 to 19 December in his hotel room in Kananga. We are all devastated by his early death.

Jean-Pierre was a warm, respectful, caring father and colleague. He was strongly committed to his job as hera team leader for the monitoring of the performance of the ASSR project (Appui au Système de Santé en RDC, Support for health systems in DRC) funded by FCDO. As part of his engagement for the Third Party Monitoring (TPM) of this project, he travelled regularly across the country. As always also during his last trip, hera partner Inge, TPM deputy team leader, was in regular contact with him. They talked on Thursday and were in contact by WhatsApp on Friday. We cannot comprehend what has happened.

Jean-Pierre stands for honouring his commitments, warm communication with people, respecting others, solving and pre-empting problems, going for the last mile whenever necessary, and was much respected as public health expert in DRC and abroad. He was a very strong personality, a warm human being and all of us at hera will miss him greatly.

hera passes its deep condolences to his wife Fifi, his children and family.

If you wish to send a message please use our contact form or send it to hera@hera.eu. We will make sure all messages reach his dear family.
