Development

hera has provided consultancy services in the development sector for over thirty years focusing on effective development cooperation, aid effectiveness, migration, WASH, education, climate change, communication for development and community development.

As a rights-based cooperative, we understand the right to development to be an inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all people are entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized.

In our work, we focus on knowledge creation, partnerships and maintaining a commitment to quality. We involve our clients in the public, civil society and private sectors and together support the development of problem-solving and evidence-based strategies. With our extensive global networks of partners, associates and consultants, we work hard to situate ourselves within local cultural contexts. In all our assignments, we are guided by our knowledge of best international practices, and our expertise on standards of quality and aid effectiveness.

hera has long recognised that global power imbalances, racial injustice, and poverty within the development sector are rooted in our colonial history. We adhere to a code of conduct and support a global movement to eliminate racism in development cooperation. We hold that there is a responsibility for higher-income countries to support lower-income countries towards achieving the right to health and development for all, leaving no one behind. International cooperation needs to be based on sovereign equality and mutual respect.
