In Loving Memory of Leen Jille, our CEO, colleague, mentor, partner and friend

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our CEO, Leen Jille, on May 30, 2025. 

Leen was more than a leader. He was a colleague, a mentor, a friend, a partner and a deeply respected member of the hera family. His leadership shaped not only the direction of our organisation, but also the culture and values we hold dear. Leen led with humility and a quite strength that inspired many around him. As someone once mentioned in Nicaragua, he led with dulce firmeza, a sweet firmness that brought clarity and calm even in the most challenging moments.  

Leen had a gift for making people feel seen, heard and valued. Whether in a tense meeting or a casual conversation, Leen’s warmth, curiosity and respect left a lasting impression. His smile, his sparkling eyes and gentle presence made him a joy to be around.  

Leen was deeply respected by his hera colleagues and also our clients. In the words of one of our clients, whom Leen worked for several times: “To us, Leen was a highly dedicated and professional man, a true expert whose well-founded judgment could only be swayed by exceptionally strong arguments. Yet he was also someone who listened patiently and was more than willing to go the extra mile for clients and other stakeholders — even, as it turns out, under the most difficult circumstances”. 

Leen believed deeply in people—he empowered those around him, encouraged new ideas, and always made time to listen. He mentored with kindness, challenged with support, and led with integrity. His influence continues to shape hera’s soul.  

Outside of work, Leen was an adventurer at heart. He and Inge, his beloved wife and a hera colleague, shared a passion for travel, exploration and life. Their bond was evident to all who knew them – two individuals, always together, bringing warmth and unity to our hera family and community.

Leen’s love also extends to his family and especially his father and sister, who were central to his life. His values, joy and love for others were rooted in these relationships which he cherished most.  

Though Leen is no longer with us, his spirit remains deeply embedded in everything we do. We honour his memory by continuing the work he cared about so deeply and by striving every day to live up to the example he set — with humility, courage, curiosity and above all with love. 

As we move forward together, we carry his vision, values, and humanity with us.
