Marianne Eelens, MSc. Global Health, BSc. Interdisciplinary Studies in Health & Psychology

  • Marianne has a post-graduate degree in Global Health and over a decade of experience in research, policymaking and programming in the field of global health, population and development.

  • She has worked for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in China, the Aruban government and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) which has given her dynamic experience in a wide array of global health and development areas.

  • Her technical areas of expertise include sexual and reproductive health and rights, health promotion, health financing, youth development and empowerment, non-communicable diseases, among others.

  • She has quantitative and qualitative research experience and served as the database manager for the UNFPA/NIDI Resource Flows Project at NIDI and led the development of a National Health Account (SRHR subaccount) in China.

  • She led the development of the National Multi-sectorial Action Plan on the Prevention and Control of non-communicable diseases in Aruba, as well as the National Roadmap for Mental Health and Substance Use in Aruba.

  • She began working with hera as a consultant in 2020 and became Associate Partner in 2022.

  • Her work with hera has included the development of a Country Evaluation Brief for the Democratic Republic of Congo, updating the SADC SRHR Scorecard, and designing an external assessment manual for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI).

  • Marianne has excellent communication and report writing skills and is an enthusiastic and driven team player.

  • Countries of experience include Aruba, Albania, Bangladesh, China, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Timor-Leste, among others.

  • She speaks Dutch, English, Papiamento and Spanish and is based in Aruba.
